The Napta Charitable Trust has been established to recognise excellence
and talent in musical theatre in the Northern region of the Musical Theatre
New Zealand, covering an area from Pukekohe to Kerikeri. The Trust's role
is to advance the education of performers in the performing arts and in
particular to assist and encourage performers to acquire and develop further
skills and expertise in performance, either here in New Zealand or overseas.
There has for many years been various Trusts' for Opera and for Ballet,
but Musical Theatre has long been the poor relation. Many of us know very
talented people who have travelled overseas to study at the various Performing
Arts Schools in Australia or Britain and we also know some of the parents
who have re-mortgaged the family home to help with the considerable financial
demands involved. Not that the Trust would be likely to fully fund such
studies, but if someone is talented enough to secure an audition and be
accepted into one of these schools and works to raise some of the considerable
amount of money required, then the Trust would contribute. All we would
ask is that the recipients remember where they came from and if possible
do something for their home Society at sometime in the future. This would
be a request only, not a demand.
A further function of the Trust is to foster increased contact, communication
and co-operation between the many societies in the Northern region. This
could include such activities as helping to fund Summer Schools, promoting
each area's productions through the major hotels in each area etc. As each
of the Societies in the region have countersigned the official Trust Deed,
the Trustees will also be open to suggestions from each Society as to funding
possibilities. |
