The NAPTAs are run by a voluntary group with a passion for both musical theatre and the aims of the NAPTA Trust. We are always keen for involvement from enthusiastic people to help ensure the future success of the Awards and the Trust objectives. Below are just some of the areas you can become involved in. Organising Committee The NAPTA Organising Committee is responsible for overseeing the selection of judges, the judging process, and for organising and the Awards Evening - including funding. Please note this Committee has no involvement in the nominee or winner decisions of the Awards. Judging Judges are appointed by the NAPTA organising committee for a maximum period of two consecutive years. Participating societies are called upon to nominate suitable members to fill the 5 annual judging roles. If you are interested in becoming a NAPTA Judge, or would like to nominate someone, please contact your participating theatre group. Find out more about the judging process... The Awards Evening We are always looking for people to be involved in the annual Awards Evening. This can be anything from creative direction of the entertainment, helping to set up on the day, technical support such as sound, lighting, backstage, and fronting the evening in the roles of MC and MC Assistant. Nomination Evening Each year we look to our participating theatre groups to host the annual Nomination Evening. This is generally a cocktail function to announce and celebrate the Nominees.
Become a Participating Society To be eligible to take part in the NAPTAs, participating theatre groups must be of “amateur” status. This is defined as the cast and crew being involved in an unpaid, voluntary capacity. The only exception being a nominal fee paid to the head creative team (Director, Choreographer, Musical Director) and orchestra members to cover expenses. The group must also be a current member of Musical Theatre New Zealand and operating within the Zone 1 region (www.musical.org.nz).
